Shariff Abdur-Rahim demonstrated his skillful
debut with the Vancouver Grizzlies after being the third overall pick in the
1996 NBA Draft and finishing third in the Rookie of the Year. In his process
of progression he proved himself to be a scorer; rebounder; versatile,
durable and dependable athlete. He was formally announced as the final
member of the USA National Team in 2000.
Abdur-Rahim became Vancouver's career leader in points (6138), rebounds
(2335), blocked shots (297), steals (326), field goals made (2183) and
attempted (4731), free throws made (1704) and attempted (2149) and minutes
played and proved himself to be tough and talented, having played in 294 of
296 games. Abdur-Rahim finished his fourth season in the NBA in 2000 and was
one of just seven NBA players to finish averaging a double-double in points
and rebounds. His blow on Vancouver was felt immediately when he lead
Vancouver in scoring (20.3 ppg.), rebounds (10.1 rpg.), blocked shots (1.1
bpg.), field goals attempted and made, free throws attempted and made, while
listing second in assists (3.3 apg.) and third in steals (1.1 spg.). He led
the Grizzlies in scoring with 18.7 ppg. and a total of 1,494 points, which
was second among rookies and 26th overall in the NBA. He was the only
unanimous selection to the 1996 NBA All-Rookie First Team. |
